Your Questions Answered About Selling Collections
-
What is the Consignment Sales Service?
This service enables owners of wargames collections to sell their items using the expertise and facilities of Colonel Bills. It is particularly suitable for the next of kin of a wargamer who has passed, to maximise the profit from the collection of their loved one.
Colonel Bills will manage the sale of the collection, either as a single lot or split into saleable lots. This includes cataloguing the items, listing them on the Colonel Bills website, promoting them on social media, storing them until sold, packing them, and dispatching them to buyers. The items will also be fully insured while awaiting sale and during shipping.
-
How are the Collection items valued prior to sale?
Colonel Bills have been dealing in the used wargame figure market since December 2010. Therefore, we have a comprehensive knowledge of the value of wargames items. If not instructed otherwise we would value the item at its current market value.
However, if you wish, you may provide Colonel Bills with a list of the items for sale and the profit you would like to make on each one. Alternatively, you may specify your expected return per piece: a foot figure counts as one piece, a mounted figure as two pieces, and a field gun as three pieces.
You also have the right to alter the sale price of the items at any time and can arrange this by contacting Colonel Bills by email or telephone.
Please be aware that the online price published will also include VAT and Colonel Bills commission, so effectively the money you make will be 62.5% of that published price.
-
How do I get my collection to you?
The owner is normally responsible for arranging delivery of the collection to Colonel Bills. If this is not possible, we can provide a quote for collection within the UK.
-
Do you accept collections from outside the UK?
No. Import duties and the cost of processing payments from outside the UK make this impractical.
-
What happens if I change my mind and decide not to sell the collection?
You may remove your items from sale at any time by contacting Colonel Bills. Return postage will be your responsibility. If the items are already listed on the website, Colonel Bills may charge 12.5% of their VAT-exclusive price at the time of withdrawal to cover processing costs incurred.
Colonel Bills may remove any item from sale at any time if circumstances make this the most appropriate course of action. If this happens, Colonel Bills will arrange and pay for the items to be returned to a UK address.
-
How much of the sale price is mine, and how much do I lose through commission?
The published sale price includes 20% VAT. Colonel Bills will keep 25% of the VAT exclusive sale price of each product as commission. A typical example of a painted figure unit sold for £100 would breakdown as follows:
VAT - £16.67
Colonel Bills Commission - £20.83
Owners Profit - £62.50
-
When would I be paid for items that are sold?
Colonel Bills will make payment for sold items at the end of the calendar month in which the sale takes place, together with an up-to-date statement of account. This statement will list the items currently for sale, those sold during that month, and those sold previously, so you can track the progress of your collection as it is listed and sold.
